End of January check in
I start rehearsals for a new show tomorrow. In addition to playing a slighted British woman who goes undercover as a waitress in order to catch her philandering hot-shot husband, I’ll be designing the costumes for the show. Costume design is something I’ve always had an interest in and I LOVE going in for fittings when I’m in a show. I love the fact that costumes inescapably convey so much about a character onstage (or a person in real life, for that matter). Aside from the whole sewing construction aspect, which regretfully is something I never picked up from my expert mom or sisters, I think I’m gonna be good at it!
It will feel good to be working on a play again…..integrating rehearsals blocks into my day and making time for my administrative responsibilities as a development officer. These past few weeks I’ve been spending eight straight hours in front of a computer working hard on grants and research. As the day wares on I can feel the transfer of my precious energy into the computer screen. It doesn’t take long before I feel like a zombie and no amount of coffee can correct it. I simply must stand up and shake my entire body…swing my legs back and forth, yawn in a song, crack my vertebrae, and sometimes I even go so far as to step outside the office into the 10 degree temperatures get some fresh (chilly) oxygen into my lungs.
January and February are usually my least favorite months. Mostly because the winters elsewhere are ever so grey and ever so oppressive. But though it is incredibly cold, the Minnesota winters feature so much sunshine!. Crisp blue skies, sterile afternoon sun up above, and the silliest little snow birds chirping boisterously in bare birch branches.

Back into the Minnesota Blue
Returned from a relaxing, slightly warmer, Christmas vacation in California.
Back to the crunch of snow underfoot, the prisms of icicles on eves, and the beautiful but melancholy blue of the wintertide evenings.
