Ice Maidens and American Theatre Magazine
My career continues on the up and up. Last week we were contacted by a writer for American Theatre Magazine, the highly esteemed theatre trade periodical, asking for a preview photo of our fall show ‘Ice Maidens‘ (the one in which I have the lead). Not only have we not started rehearsals yet, but due to revisions the final script has yet to be disseminated to the cast. However, we were able to to mock up a rehearsal photo of one of the most dramatic moments of the play…..me being pulled out of the ice (the onstage trap) by my father.
A few days later I learned that the photo will be accompanied by a 300 word preview piece in the October issue. This is exciting news for the theatre….and truthfully, amazing news for me! National recognition is something I’ve rarely ever dreamed of for myself. I sort of had this vague notion that someday, way way way in the future, I would be mentioned in some small blip as a seasoned dame playing some dusty role. But rather, its happening to me now, as the lead (of all roles), in a new play (of all plays), in Lanesboro, Minnesota (of all places)!
We’ll see if the piece makes it past the editors. Its hard not to count your chickens before they hatch in a situation like this. Hopefully, this time next month I’ll be able to post the actual photo and spread on my blog.
