Cutting a rug at Hal and Adrienne’s wedding

How far would you drive for sushi?

Two hours?

That’s how long it takes to get to the Twin Cities from our sweet little hamlet in South East Minnesota. We savored the succulent sea treats and lingered at the candlelit table for almost as long as it took to get there.

The meal was worth it. Even with gas prices as high as they are. A girl needs some Omega-3s every once in awhile. The real dilemma is when said girl forgets her wallet in said sweet South Eastern Minnesota hamlet.

Thanks Stef! Just take it out of my paycheck!

As the autumnal equinox approaches….

Summer and Autumn are being quite casual with each other here.

October approaches and the bugs still buzz confidently in the sun broiled leaves.

The air is open, devoid of humidity, and the sky yawns in a clear consistent blue.

My trim little bicycle carves the truest path through the day.

It is 9 am and I’m outside in shorts and flip flops, defiant that the weather will ever turn shrewd.

‘Oh, but it will!’ they all proclaim!

‘And how!’ a few confer.

Kittens make me ridiculously giddy.

This is Mario! They found him mewing about in the garden. Jason says he’s just ‘fostering’ him until he finds a good home. Yeah. Right. What a little charmer! He loves to nuzzle and paw playfully. I wish I could keep him….sadly he’s not allowed in company housing. Someday! Someday I’ll have kitties of my own. Until then, I’ll just have to pay visits.

Ice Maidens and American Theatre Magazine

My career continues on the up and up. Last week we were contacted by a writer for American Theatre Magazine, the highly esteemed theatre trade periodical, asking for a preview photo of our fall show ‘Ice Maidens‘ (the one in which I have the lead). Not only have we not started rehearsals yet, but due to revisions the final script has yet to be disseminated to the cast. However, we were able to to mock up a rehearsal photo of one of the most dramatic moments of the play…..me being pulled out of the ice (the onstage trap) by my father.

A few days later I learned that the photo will be accompanied by a 300 word preview piece in the October issue. This is exciting news for the theatre….and truthfully, amazing news for me! National recognition is something I’ve rarely ever dreamed of for myself. I sort of had this vague notion that someday, way way way in the future, I would be mentioned in some small blip as a seasoned dame playing some dusty role. But rather, its happening to me now, as the lead (of all roles), in a new play (of all plays), in Lanesboro, Minnesota (of all places)!

We’ll see if the piece makes it past the editors. Its hard not to count your chickens before they hatch in a situation like this. Hopefully, this time next month I’ll be able to post the actual photo and spread on my blog.

Minnesota primaries

In Minnesota you can register to vote on the day of the election and at any polling center. I registered a few weeks back at the state fair but my name wasn’t on the list yet, so I re-registered here in Lanesboro in the basement of the community center. However, I’m not a Minnesota resident (officially) and since I live in company housing, I don’t have any ultilities bills or the like to prove that I reside here in town. No problem….the polling volunteers vouched for me because they’ve seen me in the shows at the theatre. Just one of the many perks of living in a village.

I voted Al Franken for  the Democratic cantidate for Senate because “he’s good enough, smart enough, and doggone it, people like him”.  Wink.

Since Tuesdays are my day off and I’ve been doing twice as many shows as usual, I rewarded myself this evening with a glass of white wine on the porch. (Straw for comedic effect…and it went with my outfit!)

The night owl yearns to be the early bird.

Isn’t it odd and perhaps a little ironic that I stay up late and have trouble falling asleep because I’m so excited about the prospect of waking up really early and drinking a BIG hot cup of coffee?

HELLLLLOOOO Nurse!

I’m going on as Nurse Kelly in ‘Harvey’ while Jill is on vacation. I’m filling in for her quite a bit in September and then taking over the role completely for the month of October until the repertory ends.  Nurse Kelly is rather plucky and sweet. She and Dr. Sanderson have mutually sublimated affections for each other addingto  the hi-jinx of the heartwarming play.

Thanks Jill for the beautiful flowers!

Have you ever seen the Jimmy Stewart film version? Many of our elderly patrons are delighted by our production because they remember the movie so fondly.

then there was shift.

Early evening and. I went out to

befriend the barometric shift in clime.

The wind sifted over my skin and through my hair and it became clear how unclear my thoughts are about last night’s conversation.

Whether it was anxiety or emotion, or humidity, or wine, or all of the above, that makes it all a bit hazy….but. hum.
